Know Which Memory Card Format to Choose

1030582_generic_compact_flash_card_w_clipping_path1When you buy a digital camera, you usually want to get more memory for it because you’ll want to take a lot of pictures before you have to download or delete them so that you can take more. The larger the amount of memory you have, the better off you’ll be in this regard, but you have to know which memory card format to choose.

Certain cameras only take certain kinds of memory cards. Flash memory and CompactFlash are among the most common types of memory cards. There is also the microdrive, the secure digital/multimedia card, and other proprietary formats. If you use a proprietary format be aware that these are designed to only work with a particular brand of camera. If you have a Sony and try to get a memory card that works with a Canon, it won’t fit into the camera properly and won’t work. The easiest way to buy more memory for your digital camera is to buy that memory when you buy the camera.

You can ask the person selling the items to you about them and you can make sure that you get the right one. If you don’t do that, though, you can buy a memory card later and make sure you get the right one by bringing the make and model of your camera with you.
