Get the Warranty on Your Digital Camera!

1128814_digital_camera_1When people hear the words ‘extended warranty’ they generally say no automatically because they don’t assume that they will ever use the warranty. To a certain extent, that’s accurate. Most extended warranties never get used. However, when they are needed they can be very valuable, and most extended warranties for digital cameras are not very expensive at all.

Overall, whether you decide to get the warranty should depend on several factors, the most important of those being how long you intend to keep the camera, what the manufacturer’s warranty covers (and for how long), and the price of the camera. If it’s an inexpensive, point and shoot model that you don’t plan on keeping very long you probably aren’t that interested in getting the extended warranty. However, if it’s a much more high-end model getting that warranty can be very valuable since you’ll be protecting your investment with it.

That’s especially true if you’re an amateur or semi-professional photographer who plans on keeping the camera a long time. Professionals generally buy extended warranties, as well, because the cameras that they buy cost a lot more than what most other people would pay, and they want to protect them against the cost of expensive repairs. Most manufacturers’ warranties are only for one year and limited in what they cover, so if you’ll have the camera for a while and use it a lot, get the extended warranty for protection and peace of mind.
